Mehdibeigi

Director · Writer

Soroor Mehdibeigi is an Iranian filmmaker and screenwriter based in Rome. She began her studies in literature, winning the Bronze Medal at Iran’s National Literature Olympiad with a focus on dramaturgy, before studying Cinema at Tehran University of Art.

Her short film Groundless portrays a group of workers in a vast, bankrupt factory who discover a child’s dead body, only to realize that even for a dead child, there is no ground to rest in peace. The film was nominated and selected at several international festivals, including Nevada City Film Festival, Salento International Film Festival, and Oregon State International Film Festival, and was recognized among the best adapted short films at Tehran International Short Film Festival.

Before moving to Italy in 2020, Soroor worked as a director, assistant director, project manager, and editor on independent film productions in Iran. In Rome, she received a merit scholarship and completed her Master’s degree in Film Art at Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA), where she made her second short film, Outcast. The story of the film takes place at midnight on the streets of Rome. Two immigrants, an author and a boy, meet for the first time and spend the entire night together.

She has served as a jury member at international film festivals and, in 2024, collaborated with Servizio Civile Internazionale to establish an alternative international film festival dedicated to emerging, low-budget, and non-mainstream filmmakers, serving as Artistic Director for its first two editions.

In 2026, she was selected for CineCampus – Terre di Cinema in Syracuse as a screenwriter for two short films, and for Lecco Film Fest’s development lab as one of the selected filmmakers under 35 developing their first feature film.

She currently works as a screenwriter with Italian productions while developing her next film project.
